Blog2017 ≫ NELSON WEEKEND!

Everyone drop all the plans to slouch in front of the TV all weekend! We have a surprise visit from Nelson. Nelson is the class mascot, kids take it in turns to take him home for the weekend and then have to write about all the exciting and wholesome things they did over the weekend. We made the snap decision to go to London, specifically the British Museum so Nelson could learn about ancient Egypt. This is a class topic for this term...

Was a great and worthwhile trip. We got the high speed up about ten am, and were on the bus to the museum by eleven. It's not quite far enough to get get a bus for adult legs but in order to keep the kids from getting too tired we did more public transport. Plus it's an extra experience for them (and Nelson). I like the retro-styling of the new Routemaster busses.

Increased security everywhere though I suppose they have always had bag checks on the way into the museums. There's too much interesting stuff to see in the amount of time we had before number two son was crying with boredom, but we managed to fit in enough mummies, the Rosetta Stone and the Elgin Marbles. Who knew you're not supposed to call them that any more? I would have liked more time with the ancient British stuff, the treasure trove and things, but we can go back again. We ate lunch there, was all a bit fancy for these boys really. There was also a phone-based challenge going on, we were giving phones connected to a whatsapp group on the way in and were sent challenges, things to find. Good idea, but a bit too much for our ages.

Next stop Hamley's, by bus again. A good day to visit here as they had a Ninjago promotion on. We got pictures with a life sized lego ninja and some free handouts of Lego, stickers, and Ninja headbands that the boys have had their full moneys worth out of. Everything in Hamley's is expensive though, so next to the actual Lego store where the prices are surprisingly good. 25% less than Hamley's, AND there were more freebies too, so we have come home with plenty of Lego.

We had dinner in Pizza Express just near Leicester Square as that was a good place to think about getting our final bus from. However we decided on the tube instead. We did see the scary sight of armed police running through Leicester Square tube station, and then the same again when we got back to Kings Cross. Did not hear of any actual incidents though.

Fast train home again, boys quite exhausted and late to bed. A great day.
