Blog2017 ≫ IKEA are going smart light crazy

Just gassing with Roly about smart lighting as he found these1; he has Hue lighting and they are compatible. I do not have Hue, too rich for me, but I'm no longer loyal to Lightwaverf maybe I should look at something else? I didn't realise Hue are really the Zigbee standard so should be compatible with other things, including what IKEA are doing. They have had compatibility issues but they're all good now. We so far could not have smart lighting in the playroom or the kitchent as they use GU10 bulbs, lots of them. All the Lightwaverf smart lighting requires dimmable bulbs and to replace all my led gu10 bulbs with dimmable versions would be too expensive, plus I'd need some kind of "driver" and it's well complex.

Now it looks like IKEA do GU10 smart dimmable bulbs and they're cheaper than the others above, even the "bridge" that you need is only 25. This could be a goer, could be my foray into Zigbee lighting. Might be good to have different standards on the go anyway. IKEA Tradfri is not an open system at the moment, but there must be a way...
