Blog2017 ≫ Corfu: Splash pool

In Corfu at the MarBella hotel we spent most of our time a the Splash pool. This was the most child friendly of the three pools, it has two slides, a big green multi-storey flume into about 80cm of water and the smaller rainbow slide into about 40cm of water. The kids loved both of them and went on each many times. There were loungers around this pool and it was a delightful place to sit, watch, and enjoy a drink. There was an attached bar and restaurant, the American-1950s style Splash diner. We ate a lunch and a dinner in this diner, this was a free and easy option to choose instead of the main buffet, and you didn't have to book this one. The bar had the same range of drinks as everywhere else, so though I mostly had a Greek beer in a takeaway plastic pint glass we did sometimes have cocktails here. The kids enjoyed milkshakes, kids cocktails and other soft drinks plus complimentary crisps, popcorn, and ice creams. Not too many though!

Just about the first time in this pool, on his first go down the big flume, number two son went down on his own without any buoyancy aid, and went straight underwater at the end. And kind of just sat there. It wasn't deep, but sitting down his head was under the water, and he can't swim. I didn't have time to check if he would get up by himself so I had to jump in and grab him to make sure. I had my trunks on and everything, I was ready for this. But I had my phone in the trunks pocket. Was a couple of minutes before I figured this out, so the phone was DEAD. Took a few days for it to dry out, then a few more days of it messing about, rebooting itself, not responding. So, I am missing some photos from some parts of the holiday, as that's the only photo-taking device I had. If I'd had a camera, that probably would have been in the other pocket anyway. The phone is not completely ok now, I need a new one really. Still at least the boy was OK!
