Blog2017 ≫ Jolly to Sofia part two

⬆️Work Jolly to Bulgaria

The rest of our trip to Sofia was a lot more sedate... The two who got very drink did recover by the end of the day. The younger one spent most of the day in the office toilet, but still managed to do a presentation to the office, commendable. The other one was poorly back at the hotel, but manage to come out at dinner time. He could not eat or drink, but he was upright at least.

We thought about going into central Sofia for dinner but stayed nearby the office and hotel instead and went to a nice pizza and grill type place that I can't remember the name of. They refer to it as "the pizza place" other workmates have been there before. We were all wrapped up by 9pm and everyone wanted to pack it in for the night. I went for a walk to find a shop for gifts, but only Lidl was open. I got wine and chocolate and sweets to bring home and went back to the hotel to watch TV.

Most of the next day was travelling. We booked a taxi back to the airport and now our our previous someone waiting with a sign taxi sounds even dodgier... It was 25 Bulgarian Lev from the airport, but only 8 going back. Our first taxi driver (who had our name and destination) was dodgy in some way, the booked taxi company say we never turned up, someone hijacked the booking somehow and drove us round the houses three times ramping up the bill. I'm very glad a) we didn't agree to go to the coast b) we didn't go to his "friend's bar" and c) the passengers in the other taxi did not drink the free drinks he was handing out...

Not much in Sofia airport really, but a strange set up for buying soft drinks from a locked fridge. Do they have a lot of stolen soft drinks? All the gifty type stuff was pretty expensive. I saw "lego" in a shop, but it's not lego, was a 100% rip of of Ninjago though... would have been annoyed if I'd bought it. You don't see these kinds of knock offs any more, surprised to find them in the European Union.

Flight back was a little bumpy to start. There was a 40 minute delay announced after we'd taken our seats, so that was boring, then actually physically turbulent going over the mountains, that was not boring but not pleasant. Then very very clear indeed, I had a window seat and could see every detail on the ground. Usually you're flying above the clouds, but there were none. Could identify places as we flew over them, could see lots of offshore wind farms, and even pick out Ashford Outlet Centre from 36,000 feet up.

Drive back to the office was quicker than the drive up, no delays. After handing back the hire car I made it in time for gymnastics. I did forego my Friday trip to the Inn Doors to be with the family. Think they missed me, I did miss them.
