Blog2017 ≫ Another day without food, another night without sleep

Up early again today, I do struggle to sleep on the day following diet day. It's wrong to say "no food" of course, we just eat less on our 5-2 days, and it's probably plenty, but just a shock following my regular gluttony. Yesterday I had muesli for breakfast, a sandwich thin and an apple for lunch and a mediterranean vegetable stew that Clare made, with cauliflower rice. All nice, could have just done with a bit more.

We watched this Horizon episode yesterday on fasting. It's not about dieting here but about massive health benefits:

Michael Mosley has set himself a truly ambitious goal: he wants to live longer, stay younger and lose weight in the bargain. And he wants to make as few changes to his life as possible along the way. He discovers the powerful new science behind the ancient idea of fasting, and he thinks he's found a way of doing it that still allows him to enjoy his food. Michael tests out the science of fasting on himself - with life-changing results.

You'd have to give up quite a lot to make the big difference there, but it's worth a watch. I might be able to do this more easily if I had a camera on me, just being left to my own motivation is too hard. I don't think I'm going to live any longer for being on this diet, but it's always nice to have your existing views reinforced, hearing things like "eat more vegetables and less protein"... Not even "views" really, but a "good diet" is coincidentally the same as my "normal diet".
