Blog2017 ≫ We built a robot

Here it is1, more details later when we have done something more interesting than make it thrash around in circles...

We got the CamJam EduKit 32 which is an absolute bargain, comes with everything needed to make a raspberry pi robot except the raspberry pi itself, four batteries to power the motors, and then another power supply for the raspberry pi. You need to keep the two power supplies separate. So, it does come with two wheels, two motors, a control board to send power to the motors, a battery pack, a castor (third wheel to keep it balanced), a min breadboard, and extra wires and sensors to expand it. There are good educational worksheets on the website to show you what to do, and it's all working out nicely so far. The boys are enthused. As well as programming it to drive in a pattern (forward for 1 second, turn right, forward for 1 second) we have it controlled by the wiimote at the moment, so it's just a boxy remote controlled car toy. Next step is to set up the distance sensor to avoid obstacles, and then the line follower, and then start expanding on it... I might get another one these!

Just in time for the new robot wars tonight!

raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
