Blog2016 ≫ Twenty years ago today I was at Phoenix Festival

It's a very hot day here today, might hit thirty degrees thought tomorrow is supposed to be a little 'otter.

Twenty years ago this very day I was off to Phoenix Festival a short lived rival to Reading etc. A more varied lineup, think they probably spent too much on big names and couldn't sustain it. Ah well, was good while it lasted. I remember David Bowie and Sex Pistols but there were seriously a lot of bands there. Just found this on songkick:

Foo Fighters, Beck, Massive Attack, The Prodigy, The Flaming Lips, Alanis Morissette, Bjork, Placebo, David Bowie, Cypress Hill, Barenaked Ladies, The Cardigans, Manic Street Preachers, Coolio, Moloko, Nightmares On Wax, Skunk Anansie, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Lamb, Leftfield, G. Love & Special Sauce, Super Furry Animals, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Cocteau Twins, The Fall, Frank Black, Incognito, Us3, Lush, Sneaker Pimps, Carl Cox, Asian Dub Foundation, Goldie, Shed Seven, Alabama 3, Dodgy, Jonathan Richman , Terrorvision, Cj Bolland, LTJ Bukem, Echobelly, Gene, Longpigs, The James Taylor Quartet, Red Snapper, The Wildhearts, Terry Callier, Bis, Baby Bird, Courtney Pine, Lionrock, Sex Pistols, Drugstore, Smith And Mighty, Marion, Corduroy, Ruby, Zion Train, Kenickie, Symposium, Strangelove, Cable, Wilson, Fabio, Raw Stylus, Rare, Blameless, Mark Thomas, 60t Dolls, Charlie's Angels, Joyrider, Baby Chaos, Honeycrack, Linoleum, Smaller, Pillbox, Showgirls, Animals That Swim, Gold Blade, Mantaray, Send No Flowers, The Dharmas, Monorail

I remember Holy Barbarians too though, thats Ian Astbury of The Cult and I'm sure David Devant played too. Main thing I remember is the heat, it was hot, and there was much queuing up for water.

We used to have a huge poster of this lineup up in our flat in Putney. Of all the rubbish I've kept over the years, that's one I should have hung on to...

I have a picture, but it is that festival the year before so maybe I'm mixing them up a bit:

Sure this was actually at Santa Pod raceway wasn't it, same venue we used to go to VW shows.
