Blog2016 ≫ Gritters are out today

They were gritting the road in Hythe today, preparing for some bad weather overnight. This morning we had ice, I cleared some old broken pots out of the garden and they were frozen. Also the water in the base of the swing ball was frozen too when I emptied that out.

Had a productive day really, tidied the garden just a smidge, and finally fixed the garden gate. Somehow the fence post that the gate closes against seems to have dropped, so the catch doesn't lock the gate properly. I've been trying to bodge it with a bungee for the past couple of weeks, but it's not working, and it bangs in the wind. So today I bit the bullet, went out in the cold with my tools and took the latch off and refitted it. A good job, and quick too, I'm quite pleased!

Today I also did an exciting job of organising my drawer in our room. I only have the one drawer basically that I have to fit all my pants and socks in, I gave my tallboy to thing two and never bought another one, so all my stuff goes in the big drawer under the bed. It's become a bit packed and chaotic and I couldn't fit the freshly ironed t-shirts in there the other day, so time to empty it. Turns out it was quite full of old copies of Private Eye, Beer, Make, and one rogue Wealden Times. I must have been reading in bed, and just chucked the half read copy in the drawer, only to be buried by socks and pants. Job done now anyway.

More excitingly I racked my home brew today. I think that's the right term anyway, I barrelled some of it and bottled some, should be ready in three weeks or so, though I expect I'll try some right at the end of this month anyway, ready or not. What's this, day sixteen of not drinking? #dryanuary

Also another useful job, we all got haircuts today. Very productive.

dryanuary: Not drinking for the month of January.
