Buried treasure (as art) in Folkestone

FG ≫ 2014 ≫ Buried treasure (as art) in Folkestone

Here in the Guardian, German artist Michael Sailstorfer has buried 10k worth of gold bullion in the sand of the Outer Harbour beach, Folkestone.

Someone on the guardian comments works out the bars must be 12g of gold each, that is pretty small. 1 tablespoon of sugar is about that weight, and gold is pretty dense, surely these will be about the size of a staple.

This stunt is part of Folkestone Triennial.

UPDATE: Guardian are live blogging it.

10k: Ten km, just over six miles in old money. Sometimes talking about 10,000 steps though, an arbitrary daily step-count target.

This is part of my site The 'Gerald that I built in a frenzy of enthusiasm when I first came here sometime in '04. I had been a frequent visitor for a few years previous to that so I am technically one of those DFLs you get nowadays. The site used to be a lot more dynamic with a calendar of events + voting for favourite places and things, and I hear it was a useful reference for others who were thinking of moving here. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though just a couple of miles) it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as Folkestone itself is now becoming the exciting place we always thought it was about to become. I am not Gerald BTW, this comes from a fake newspaper in an episode of Brasseye or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, + how there is a local paper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are GRATE aren't they? Do contact me if you have anything to contribute, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on the twitter.
