Nest are pushing Works With Nest1 today, lots of people they're working with that link in with your Nest Thermostat etc. Some big name products that will all communicate with your nest thermostat, sounds like google / nest want to be teh centre of your automated home. There are are cars that will tell your thermostat you're home and to turn the heating on, likewise the garage door can do the same thing. Also the jawbone will do the same thing and it all talks to ifttt.com so you can write your own recipies. One nice example is "if my nest smoke alarm smells smoke, then send a text to my neighbours"... It's being discusses on hacker news2, lots of interesting points of view. Who will win the home automation wars? Google and Apple are both really going for it right now. I should step up my own attempts maybe one of them will buy me.
I should take a look at Jawbone Up3. Been waiting ages for a new fitbit so I can replace Clare's and then start on one myself but they've been really slack at releasing the new version. Maybe we should shift to jawbone.
UPDATE: BBC's take on events.
