Blog2014 ≫ Joy of Tech's take on Google buying Nest

Google thermostat releated fun1...

Possibly you are inviting THE MAN into your home by buying his connected devices, but most likely THE MAN is already in. I make massive use of the google, I use the email and the calendar, and I even integrated google calendar into my home automation2. I also started logging some of my activity to drive.google.com - home automation activity, not "at 4pm I had a poo" type activity. Not yet anyway. I'm in quite deep, but I'd imagine so many people are in at least this deep with various other internet giants. I don't report my every movement on foursquare or facebook at least.

I am hoping I can get the benefits of a connected home system without having to hand over all of my data by using something like heatmiser.com3. We'll see.
