Blog2013 ≫ Competition for the Arduino Yun

Hmm not sure about this1. I like the idea, I like what openhomeautomation.net2 do. They have lots of articles on how to do diy home automation, usually using the CC3000 breakout board from adafruit.com3. This means extra expense, extra hardware, and so extra connecting, all round more complex.

But wait ... what if your main board already had an integrated WiFi connectivity ? This is exactly what we want to address with this project: propose an Arduino compatible board, using the same format as the Arduino Uno, with the CC3000 WiFi chip integrated on the board.

The only problem is this sounds exactly like the Arduino Yun4. And it is a similar price - official price of the Yun is 55 (euros), though it is 55 on that amazon seller. And as it is an indiegogo (like kickstarter) project, it doesn't even exist yet.

I have need of another arduino with ethernet, as I have two project ideas that I want to run in parallel (my rf butler rf receiever / interceptor, and my new infra red repeater + manager. I have one working arduino ethernet shield, and one that never worked so I think first I'll have a go at fixing that one, then maybe just get another one of those...

arduino: Microcontroller, hardware prototyping platform, a tiny specialised computer.
