Blog2013 ≫ New release of my lightwaverf home automation ruby gem

Get it here1, version 0.4, including new super timers by Julian McLean and myself. You can now set some advanced options in the calendar, and combining this with some tricks at ifttt.com you can now set things to happen relative to sunset or sunrise, different events to trigger when you're on holiday, and lots more. See the documentation at:

rubygems.org/gems/lightwaverf1

Or if you just want to install it and have a go just type

gem install [lightwaverf](/wiki/#lightwaverf)

on your raspberry pi or imac or other unix based computer. Hmm as this is ruby I'm sure you can get it working under windows easily too.

You'll need a lightwaverf wifi-link still, and other hardware. Interesting stuff I'm sure you'll agree!

I think I've set up an interesting recipe on ifttt.com that is going to combine in an interesting and useful way with my new water butt pump (when I get it). Each day ifttt.com checks the weather and if it's going to be clear it turns on the sprinkler connected to the water butt at a set time, for an amount of time that is relative to how hot it's going to be (one extra degree centigrade hotter means one more minute of pumping). It hasn't triggered yet, I hope it works, I will report back.

raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
