It's been great learning about Asterisk 1, today I set up a soft phone network with voicemail and so on. And I got my free raspberry pi and peripherals, so I think it's only fair that I install Asterisk on it now and set up a phone network at home. I got a free sip account from sipgate.co.uk 2 so I can have inbound calls on a regional number (I picked a London number just for larks) without the need for a real phone line. Only thing is it's very difficult to get internets without a phone line, so I still have a real phone line too!
raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
