My ruby gem 1 has just been updated, it now works with the start and end time of the calendar event. So instead of having to add an event to your calendar at 7.30 saying "lounge light on" and then one at 9.30 saying "lounge light off", you just add one event, from 7.30 - 9.30 with a title of "lounge light" and the timer will pick it up correctly...
