Complaining to vesternet did the job, very gently of course. I could not be bothered with queueing at the post office just for a 13 remote1, and told them I wouldn't be returning it. They have given me a refund and a 5% discount in case I feel like using them again.
Now where do I get a white lightwaverf remote from? I might try and cut open the black one and see what I can do...
