Blog2012 ≫ Remote controlled sockets for a fiver from Maplin

This 1 is not as nice as the lightwaverf that I am investing in at the moment but it's CHEAP! This looks like a much better bet for hacking home automation than any of the others I've seen so far because it is so cheap. B&Q have a three-for-twenty-quid on the old easyhome.eu sockets which I thought was good, but for five quid it's going to be worth getting one of these, opening up the remote and wiring it into the arduino 2 or raspberry pi 3.

Slightly cheaper for experimenting with than the FIFTY QUID I wasted on a relay hub.

  1. Removed old maplin.co.uk/additional-remote-controlled-mains-socket-531560 link here.
  2. Microcontroller, hardware prototyping platform, a tiny specialised computer.
  3. Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
