Clare and I made some great curries at the weekend

Had a go at making some new curries at the weekend, in preparation for curry night in two weeks. I made green pea masala and brinjal something or other from Das Sreedharan's book1. A SIGNED COPY of that book no less. His first restaurant was in Stoke Newington where we used to live, though I can't remember if I got the book there or at his restaurant in Soho now. I've probably only made one or two dishes from the book in the ten or more years since I've had it, but I made two in the same day and they were both great. Very simple too, I can't quite put my finger on why the aubergine dish was so good when it doesn't have many complex ingredients in it. The only things that I would not normally have used were curry leaves, lots of them, and urad dal which is a black lentil I got from the Everest Cash and carry shop in Cheriton. If not those maybe it's the techniques, or a magical combination of the two. Anyway, absolutely brilliant, I'm really pleased.

Clare made a Chicken jalfrezi too that she assures me was very good too. Looking forward to curry night!

I just had my two curries reheated for my lunch today and they were just as good. Looking forward to tomorrow when I have it again.
