More pictures of the Pretty Things when they came to Folkestone 40 years ago...
Some pictures I've just been sent, of The Pretty Things when they played at Micks' Flamenco Bar (now better known as Pipers) in 1967:
That last photo was taken outside George Robey's the tobacconist a couple of doors down from the club. The next two were taken inside the club. I am not sure about the year, but probably 66 or 67. If I could find out when Skip took over as drummer from Viv Prince, it might help.
That's from the supplier of the photos, answers.com1 says
His increasing unreliability came to a head on a legendary summer 1965 tour of New Zealand, culminating in his getting thrown off the plane returning the group to England shortly before takeoff. Whatever his exact behavior during the tour, he did his share or more for earning the group a lifetime ban from the country. (It's also been reported that he was the first British rock star busted for drug possession, though details are elusive.) He continued to play with the group, and exasperate them with some missed gigs and unruly conduct, before he left for good in November 1965.

This is part of my site The FG that I set up in a fury of excitement when we first moved here in approximately 2004. I'd been a frequent visitor for a few years before that but I am technically one of those DFLs you get nowadays. The site was a lot more dynamic with a calendar of events and voting for favourite venues and things, + I hear it was a useful reference for those who were thinking of moving to the area. Now Iʼve moved out of Folkestone again (though just to Hythe) it doesnʼt get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as The town is becoming the exciting place we always thought it was just about to. I am not Gerald by the way, this comes from a fake newspaper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, + how there is a local paper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are great arenʼt they? Do contact me if you have anything to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on the twitter.
