The rest of the country are noticing us and our new high speed rail link

FG ≫ 2006 ≫ The rest of the country are noticing us and our new high speed rail link

From 24 Dash1:

From 2009, the trains will run between London's King's Cross station and Ashford in 36 minutes - less than half the time it takes at present.

London to Canterbury journeys, which currently take 102 minutes, will come down to 60 minutes, while London to Folkestone, currently a journey that can take up to 98 minutes, will come down to 62.5 minutes.

Front page of the Evening Standard yesterday, with pictures of the new bullet trains, though they do say ticket prices are likely to rise by SEVENTY percent, yoinks. Canterbury is sounding more attractive than Folkestone right now, though I do like being right on the sea, and it's still affordable here.

This is part of my website The 'Gerald that I set up in a fury of excitement when we first moved here in approximately 2004. I'd been a frequent visitor for a few years before that but I am technically one of those DFLs you get nowadays. The site was a lot more dynamic with a calendar of events + voting for favourite venues + things, + I hear it was a useful reference for others who were thinking of moving to the area. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though just to Hythe) it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as The town is becoming the exciting place we always thought it was about to become. My name is not Gerald BTW, this comes from a fake newspaper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, + how there is a local newspaper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are great aren't they? Do get in touch if you have anything to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on Twitter.
