PopEx ≫ 2004 ≫ Unusual U2 gig

Anyone here remember the midlands in the late '70s?

Hello all, I am BACK after another days holiday, I was down in Folkestone to see The Darkness and Goldie Lookin' Chain, review and pictures later... First, maybe you can help with this request, anyone here old enough 1?

Visited your site & was wondering if you could help me date a Gig Poster I have. To me it looks v.early as it's at The Golden Eagle ...think this was a pub/club in Birmingham & U2 are scheduled to play on 17th Sept. U2's name has no prominence & is in there against a list of other Bands like Expressos, Androids, Circles, The Naturals etc who were all Gigging circa 79-80.

Any help/advise you can give would be much appreciated.

  1. Well I have revisited myself nineteen years later and a quick search finds "The Golden Eagle was a 1930s public house in Birmingham, England, which became known as a venue for live music. The pub stood on Hill Street, in Birmingham City Centre, between Victoria Square and the western end of New Street Station. It closed in January 1984 and was demolished soon afterwards. It gets a mention in this Time Out article https://www.timeout.com/birmingham/blog/seven-birmingham-venues-where-music-history-was-made

The content here originally from my very popular (in the tail end of the '90s) site popex.com. Some of this written by other people, so mainly originally created by me. I shifted this content here when the website eventually shut down in the early '00s. Hopefully this brings back memories (if you read this).
