20th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards

The Goo Goo Dolls took home two honors at the 20th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards on Tuesday, May 20th. The group was recognized by the organization for its song "Here Is Gone" and for the theme song it provided for the television show Good Morning Miami.

Lead singer Johnny Rzeznik says he had an easy time writing the theme for the show after he saw its pilot: "Yeah, it was different. It was something we did in an afternoon, and then, you know. It was nice. I saw the pilot, the videotape of the pilot, and I said you know, 'Can you give me kind of a psychological profile of these people' you know. And kind of tried to dig into their heads and make an observation about them."

ASCAP is the American Society of Composers, Authors and Artists. The organization administers licensing and collects royalties for the public performances of musical works by its members.
