Tracksuited rappers Goldie Lookin' Chain have put together an all-Welsh line-up for their upcoming hometown gig at Newport's NCLA.

Tracksuited rappers Goldie Lookin' Chain have put together an all-Welsh line-up for their upcoming hometown gig at Newport's NCLA.

The GLC crew, who also play gigs with The Streets and The Darkness during February, have asked Barry rockers My Red Cell and Newport techno guru Culprit One to support them at their 1,500-seater homecoming hoedown on February 6.

Cardiff dance legend Jean-Jacques Smoothie will also be on hand to play DJ sets before and after the GLC.

Rapper Adam Hussain said: "It's going to be the biggest smoke-off in 'Port history, clarts! Safe."

Things are beginning to move fast for the Chain. Their headline gig at London Metro sold out weeks in advance - and the collective's self-produced album, The Manifesto, has gone out of print.

The GLC will be swearing in time to music at Bristol Fleece (Feb 1, sold out), London Astoria (Feb 2, with The Streets, sold out), London Metro (Feb 3, sold out), Newport NCLA (Feb 6 - click here for tickets), Portsmouth Pyramid (Feb 7, with The Darkness, sold out), and Folkestone Leas Cliff Hall (Feb 8, with The Darkness, sold out).

Both The Darkness and the Super Furry Animals have been falling over themselves to namecheck the GLC. Justin Hawkins persuaded Zane Lowe to give the group their first Radio One airplay and the Furries brought the Chain onstage for encores of The Man Don't Give A Fuck in Brixton and Newport last year.

And in their New Year round-ups, The Fly, The Sun and The Times all tipped the Welsh urban poets for great things in 2004. [Uh, and so has popex!]
