PopEx ≫ 2003 ≫ Divis will be BIGGER! And also SMALLER!

A confusing explanation.

Can we have a defined postion on the divi's this week. There is still a lot of confusion. We going to get a brucie bonus if we hang onto whatever we had last week?

RIGHT, here's the rules I made up as I understand them... to make up for divis not being paid out last week while ther server was being moved, the weight of the divis will be DOUBLED this week. So say a number one single would normally pay out 10p, this week it will pay out 20p. To make this a bit fairer on people who've been hanging on to their shares, the normal time period you have to hold shares to realise the full divi will also be doubled - so usually if you've held the shares for less than 60 hours, you get proportionally less of the dividend. This week it'll be up to 120 hours (that's five days). It's not completely fair, but it's the best I could do at short notice. Those who've hung on since the weekend should get the full whack, those who're still day trading now won't.

Now, there's still a problem at the new hosting centre - while we can communicate with THE BEAST (the server this all runs on), The Beast can't communicate with the outside world. This means the clever crawling spider that looks at things like the NME, BBC Entertainment News, etc isn't working. So there will be less dividend information in the system than usual, so this week, it's all about chart positions and the details you've submitted yourself, there will be no other automatically added dividend info, apart from the chart positions, which I've done. FYI the chart positions count for far more than anything else as far as dividends go, the crawler just adds a little more into the mix, so bands who're touring but not currently in the charts will pay out a bit, etc.

Those cash figures are purely illustrative, a number one pays out significantly more than that. If this is confusing then RAH! I have achieved my aim, can't go giving away all the internal workings.

As these changes have involved some programming on my part, and popex is a delicate system, there's every chance something will have gone wrong. Please, all keep your fingers crossed and your lucky soya based rabbit foot substitute well rubbed.
