Been doing all the usual things though, one lot of xmas drinks with some friends that I don't see often enough, no christmas drinks with other friends that I'm not going to see now until after christmas, what with living too far away, a great shame. Much eating and drinking, trying to get in training for the xmas period proper, and lots of telly watching too. Watched From Hell, the Jack the Ripper story starring Johnny Depp yesterday, that was great. Dad if you've not seen it, I'll get it for you. Damn, that could have been a christmas present!
In other telly news, if you get the chance, DO NOT WATCH Bones. We did, and it's rubbish. We picked it just because it was him from Angel, and didn't realise it was based on the books of Kathy Reich. If we'd known that we'd probably not have bothered. Everyone says it's a bit like CSI, though I'm hoping not as we're watching that next. We only sat through two episodes, in each one the team comes up with an animated 3D holographic reconstruction of a murder, from a few bits of bone, and it's so accurate that someone can say "doesn't that look like Jane Doe, who went missing only two years ago?" and the crime is solved. Oh, it's not just ordinary animated holograms either, you can touch them, it's very clever. Avoid, it's very bad.
Off out shopping today for two last presents, nothing like leaving it to the last minute. Doesn't feel exactly like the last minute though, as we're having quite an extended christmas eve. Thursday felt like it was the day as it was my last day working, then Friday did because it was a Friday and Clare's last day. Then today just feels like a spare day, hurry up, let's get to the main event. We didn't go out last night but will have a big night out tonight as brother-in-law Kev is visiting from The Americas, so that will be great. Tomorrow, if we're not sleeping and recovering surely we'll be climbing the walls, thinking "Is it christmas yet already? It's been going on for days!"...

Had a long weekend in Folkestone, but I have returned to chaos... www.popex.com, www.record-producers.com, www.channelfly.com and other work sites all down... not big issues to fix, but annoying... one of them the power lead had fallen out the back. www.barflyclub.com came back with the clock set wrong, which triggered a big email job on the wrong day, which is not so good.
Getting lots of comment spam and referer spam on here now, not a big problem either but a bit annoying. Blocking people from posting left right and center. So look out! There's something called sna-0.0.1 mikeelliott@hotmail.com crawling and apparently farming email addresses, so look out for it.
Right so the weekend, a very tasty luxury to have that extra day off. Started off with a fairly quiet Friday night, just one drink in Wards so as to show someone it was as quiet as we'd said, then back for a great takeaway from the Cheriton Balti. We need a microwave soon really, or to bring my platewarmer down from London (good idea for xmas) our huge platters got a bit cold before we could finish things.
Saturday was Clare's Dad's birthday, we saw him, then went around Folkestone town centre, then headed off to the fairly average Watersedge in Hythe for a night of beer and pool. Had problems with taxis too, funny sort of a night, I think we ended up back in Cheriton. Plenty of booze was had by all...
Sunday was the night of the Chambers Quiz so we thought, but no, it's been put on hold until Christmas night, so it's fairly unlikely we'll be along there to defend our title, fun though it might be... in the end we made our own quiz, and took it along to The Clifton, and Clare scooped the prize. Seems now Chambers *will* be open New Years Eve, some sort of indie-disco affair, we'll have to see. Don't think any of the rest of our party would be keen to go there.
Monday we went to Canterbury, did a lot of shopping, best thing we bought was a HUGE wine glass, it's real glass and about a metre tall... we've filled it up with baubles and fairy lights, and we're going to put our presents under that instead of a tree.

BACK in London now after a smashing (but short) family Christmas... with having xmas eve off we got down to Fareham in plenty of time to relax and receive the first of our xmas bonusses - a ride in the Beetle... this was my first car that I bought in 1992, and then sold about 18 months later... when the mate who I sold it to got fed up with it rusting on his drive, he offered it to my Dad for free if he'd tow it away, so for a few more years it rusted away on Dad's drive... now it's MOT'd and roadworthy and everything and Dad picked us up from Fareham station in it, and it runs better than I remember... it's booked in to have the bodywork done, and a respray and it should be looking ace by the summer.
The evening in The Delme was almost everything that I hoped for, a couple of friends missing, but mostly present and correct, and righteously drunk. Christmas day was the successful festival of too much food and booze, and boxing day was much the same. Saw my new cousin Jasmine, and realised later that night while watching A Night To Remember that she and her brother Ben are the same relation to my parents as I am to Charles, the one who was on the The Titanic, and I always thought of as being a distant relation... in't families odd? ALSO while still down in Fareham went to see the bungalow, including the inside for the first time, man it's BIG! The work is ongoing still, there are no ceilings and most of the walls are wanting the touch of a plasterer, but the basics are there and the rooms look huge... the lounge has room for a pool table, but we couldn't afford this place anyway... when the roof is all done this place will be stunning.
Got the new Raymond Feist and Dick Porter's Darkness biography, and some nice DVD's and jumpers and socks and smellies and that, and on the way back to London I bought mine and Clare's present to ourselves, a Canon IXIS 400. That's a camera. Also got the new hard drive that I've been meaning to get for ages, which I'm going to try and fit myself now, so this could be the last time the computer's working until well into the new year... I'm back at work on Monday, but my mate who can fix up the things I break isn't around again until the 5th...
Tonight when Clare's in from work we'll mostly be eating spaghetti and watching Pirates of the Carribean
