The Fall A benefit gig for a journalist Leo Finlay, with Ash and possibly Tiger and Formula 1. Matt Lucas was there. Possibly Travis also played...
Mean Fiddler
Monsters of Rock AC/DC, Metallica, Motley Crue, Queensryche, and the Black Crowes. A pretty special line up at the top of the bill, shame it was the shortest Donington bill ever. Got a coach up from Portsmouth. m/
Castle Donington
WASP Not sure what day, the ticket is very faded... Zed Yago supported, this site says REM played there only two days before, I did pick the gigs to go to...
Portsmouth Guildhall
The Darkness The Darkness on the turn I would say, possibly the last good gig...
Hammersmith Odeon
The Primitives Plus the Pale Saints, I later went on to work with their lead singer at nme.com
Portsmouth Guildhall
Skid Row plus LA Guns and Love / Hate. The latter announced a "secret" gig they were doing the next day in London, I should have gone they were one of my fave bands of the day.
Docklands Arena
Wolfsbane Found the ticket now! I went to the gig on my own, then got the last train up to Rugby, where I was staying for college. Can't find details anywhere online. Much stage diving, one of my favourite gig.s
The Marquee
Paul McCartney Mothers Day present for Mum and Clare's mum, we went with them and Dad and Emma. Jim missed out as he has been to more gigs with us before...
Earls Court
VH1 Divas Chaka Khan, Celine Dion, Mary J Blige, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Jewel, Lisa Marie Presley, Ashanti, Shania Twain, Pat Benatar, Isley Brothers, Queen Latifah, Sharon Osbourne and STEVIE WONDER!
MGM Grand
stellastarr* plus The Ordinary Boys and The 22s. Looks like everyone was there to see the Ordinary Boys, but I thought they were a bit ordinary... stellastarr were OK, not quite as convincing as on record though.
Islington Academy
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead NME Brats show, plus Rocket From The Crypt, Peaches, and The Strokes, yes I did see them...
Astoria
Ash plus 60ft Dolls who brilliantly smashed the place up. Bis were meant to play too.
Southampton Guildhall
The Charlatans NME Brats?
Astoria
The Black Crowes Another freebie of some description. Noel and Liam Gallagher were there.
The Scala
The Cooper Temple Clause
Shepherds Bush Empire
The Cooper Temple Clause Actually support to Sizer Barker (who?) with DNA Doll
Barfly
The Avalanches Went with an old workmate, got drunk before the gig and I think I went home as soon as the band came on.
Electric Ballroom
The Beta Band Tonight's venue is crammed with indie's brightest and best, all happily expectant
according to the review in the Independent, that's me in particular to which they were referring...
Electric Ballroom
Neds Atomic Dustbin Two gigs in one night, off to a club night at the Barfly after I think, where The Darkness were playing.
Astoria
Reading Festival Just went for the day, and we picked the worst day by far looks like, RHCP disappointed. I remember They Might Be Giants and Echbelly and Ginger Wildhearts playing with a broken arm.
Reading Festival
David Devant And His Spirit Wife This actually might not have been the LEGENDARY album launch do, found a pass with a date on it so guessing it was earlier this year...
Dingwalls
Phoenix 80s style rock, they did a Cheap Trick cover. Supported by Turin Brakes apparently, I went with Neil and Camilla.
Mean Fiddler
The Dandy Warhols I think this is the last time the keyboardist took her top off on stage.
The Garage
Green Day Some special Radio One thing, got a nice freebie from friends I was about to start working with at Channelfly. Green Day picked some kids out of the audience and made them play a song.
Kings College
Radiohead I won tickets from Radio One I think, Sparklehorse support, Mark Linkous played the gig in a wheelchair, unless my brane is playing tricks.
Southampton Guildhall
Terrorvision with Mutha's Day Out and Valve. Sure the last Portsmouth Venue Campaign show that I did was Terrorvision, but these dates still don't line up...
Portsmouth Pyramids
Carnival Inspiral Carpets, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Boo Radleys, Chumbawamba, Elastica, Terrorvision and more
Stanmer Park
Suicidal Tendencies I drove my van into London for this gig, I almost never did this... ST played their encore first, and part of the gig from the top of a step ladder.
Brixton Academy
Chumbawamba First of the Portsmouth Venue Campaign freebies helping out on the door. Plus Gunshot, Attilla the Stockbroker, nad Spot the Poet.
Portsmouth Pyramids
Dee-Lite plus PM Dawn. A Nixdorf friend's birthday, the only gig we could find in town to go to. Bootsy Collins played bass for them at this show.
Birmingham Academy
Beetle Bash VW festival, think this is the one with Collapsed Lung, Reef, and The Prodigy, with Keith Flint rolling across the crowd in a big hamster ball...
Avon Park Raceway
Lighthouse Family Oops, why was I here, when the Super Furries were down the road? I was working it, but still could have planned that better...
Portsmouth Pyramids
Atom Seed My favourite band of the time playing at the club I used to go to every week anyway, not bad... The Pit is now part of a bingo hall.
The Pit
Fluffy All girl rock, loved them at the time, they basically played gigs in their pants
The Joiners
Bush plus Placebo. Not sure I actually went to this, I remember feeling really ill at the previous day's gig, think I was out for a few days with something like flu or glandula fever...
The Wedgewood Rooms
Bearsuit Some sort of twee indie bear themed evening. Last minute addition to the bill were The Futureheads for some reason.
Bull and Gate
Essential Music Festival Carter USM, PWEI, Teenage Fanclub, Dodgy, The Charlatans, Gene, Lighting Seeds, Skunk Anansie, Reef. Think I was at this...
Stanmer Park
David Devant and his Spirit Wife Well two of them anyway, perhaps playing as Carfax at Uncle Bob's Wedding Reception.
Water Rats Theatre
Badly Drawn Boy Another Barfly Sessions, evening or just later afternoon this one.
Barfly
The Cooper Temple Clause
The 100 Club
Glastonbury The year Pulp replaced The Stone Roses as headliners, along with Oasis and The Cure. Great weather.
Glastonbury
Something Can't remember what, but I know I was at something at the Wedge this night, while Placebo were at the Joiners. Maybe it was a caberet.
The Wedgewood Rooms
Tokyo Dragons plus Renegade Playboys, midweek rock night at On The Rocks, Kingsland Road [Tuesday 9 December 2003]
Big Top Frenzy Festival in Guildhall Square, Firework Party, The Rubber Bishops (Bill Bailey + Kevin Eldon, Midway Still, Alan Parker, Atilla The Stockbroker, Eat, Back To The Planet, Mega City Four, Trevor & Simon +
Portsmouth Guildhall
Orbital Well I say Orbital, actually a TV recording "The Base" I'm just trying to make it sound good. Also Alisha's Attic and more. We left before Toploader played.
Riverside Studios
Sean Hughes No idea of the date of this but possibly this year. Mark Lamarr supported, maybe the fiirst thing I went to at this venue.
The Wedgewood Rooms
Editors I'm going to this one, hope they play Killing Moon.
Leas Cliff Hall
Glastonbury I only remember REM I hope i wrote more on popex at the time that I can find later... [Thursday 24 June 1999]
Paul Weller Clare was at this one, I was not. The Lightning Seeds, The Charlatans, Sleeper, Shed 7 and Paul Weller.
Hylands Park
David Devant Guessing this one must actually be the album launch do with the free cocktails and so on:
Dingwalls
Placebo Plus dEUS though I got there too late for the support:
