Apple Airbook

There's a new ultra portable mac to be announced todday I think, some speculation here on Wired, see how everyone has to comment without reading the article? (Cue replies here, missing the point of this post, if there was a point, and there were any readers). www.engadget.com will have live coverage of Steve Jobs keynote speech live, that's where something cool is always announced in an "oh, one more thing" bit at the end.

I'm only reminded of this gadgetiness because is back. They took a break six months ago, but suddenly they've started appearing in again, special coverage of CES, but I hope they carry on after the show finishes.

Man alive it's EVIL out today. I thought this morning "it looks nearly wet enough out to wear full waterproofs LOL!!!", and I wish I had, I got soaked on the way to and from the station, my trousers and my shoes are wet through.

I don't know if the new Mac will really be called an Airbook, that was a rumour on Wired, and someone from www.macrumors.com has registered it as a domain. Also, I thought www.thinksecret.com had closed down? They have a news story on the 26th December saying

Apple and Think Secret have settled their lawsuit, reaching an agreement that results in a positive solution for both sides. As part of the confidential settlement, no sources were revealed and Think Secret will no longer be published. Nick Ciarelli, Think Secret's publisher, said "I'm pleased to have reached this amicable settlement, and will now be able to move forward with my college studies and broader journalistic pursuits."

but then there are new stories posted this year...

Billie Bans "The Sun" Snow Dome

No really, that's what I thought it said...

Was trying to read someone else's paper on the tube this morning, and a chap had his hands over part of the front of his copy of The Sun, so all I could see was "Billie Bans Sun Sn__ Do__"... One could only assume the old currant bun had had some hilarious (but obviously inappropriate) novelty toys knocked up, but it seems this isn't the case...

The sun tried to send their SNIFFER DOG along to Billie Piper's Eighteenth birthday party, but she was having none of it...

Christmas roundup

Jan3
Recommended / related

Had a GREAT Christmas break in Folkestone, quite a lot of sitting in and relaxing, playing dominoes, watching DVDs (lots of series one, why did Doyle leave? He's WHAT???) and remarkably not eating out once. Normally a trip there means restaurants for every meal, but we managed ten days or so feeding ourselves mostly healthy food. Christmas dinner was a success, the first we cooked ourselves with some help from Deano in the meat department. A fairly dull cashew roast for me, but all the trimmings made up.

Normally I would recount all our nights out here, but I can't remember exactly what we did on each night. Christmas Eve, I expect we went to to , and we did again on Christmas day night. Not been out on xmas night before, but it was ace. Free drinks all over the place and a big quiz, with many prizes, that we completely failed to win. New years eve was a bit of a wash out in Folkestone, the aforementioned pub cancelled their NYE party at very short notice so we went to and it wasn't very good... I kid myself that Folkestone is the super cosmopolis already, but it's still getting there, very much provincial winebar feeling and not worth the 15 quid entry fee... I guess it had been set to keep out the riff raff, but it made it too quiet.

Not thrilled to be back in London, but three months today the lease is up and we're heading to Folkestone and commuting... a travelcard to reach that far is going to be about 330 quid a month, each, ouch, we'll see how we get on with that. Still trying to figure out the best trains to get in, Clare needs to be at work before me, so hopefully there's a clever change-at-Ashford or direct to Cannon Street or something that means not having to leave before 7am.

is coming along nicely, we got ourselves a table from with vouchers we received as christmas presents, our new blinds are being fitted the day after tomorrow, and coffee table chest thing should be arriving soon.

Few more things, got a great book , a revision of Tales from the taproom by and that is long out of print... It's a history of the pubs of Folkestone, and it's great. Also read Exile's return in just a couple of days, very good. The book, and my reading skills, I have a certificate you know. Also great, we went to The Goods Shed in Canterbury, a farmers market by the West station, ace, will return.

On a less great note, the tsunami. You can give money here.
