Post holiday blues. And reds

Man alive it is hot today. Very disappointed to get back to the UK yesterday and find it almost as hot here as it was in , but pleased to find that it's not been this nice all week... Work email account has retrieved 7000 so far and still climbing fast, and I had to reboot . Most alarming of all everyone seems to be wearing matching clothes in the office. I have followed the rule of not wearing a white shirt on the first day back from a holiday (not that I am tanned), but my choice of red t-shirt is replicated all over the show, we look like a boy band.

Got my River Cottage, Jeeves and Wooster and Red Dwarf DVD's, and my new headphones so the day is not a dead loss... full holiday review to follow. Ooh, and as well as lots of engagement cards waiting for us on the mat, got six too! We're going on the Wednesday and the Friday, and not the Saturday as I've been telling everyone, hope this doesn't cause any problems.

Lots of searches for , what's he been up to now? Not caught up with much news, but pleased in an evil kind of way to hear and have both been canned.

David Devant and his Spirit Wife

Well the gig was fantastic I'm very glad to report, a homecoming to (now called for some reason), the launchplace of their first album, was somehow appropriate. The place was packed, perhaps partly because of an enormous free guestlist, but there must have been a generous sprinkling of paying punters (like us) too.

A shamelss attempt was made to return to glories past, with Vessel coming onto the stage in silhouette form first of all, but without the fully elaborate painting-himself-real thing. And the stand-in spectral roadies ripped the paper too. They were reasonable lookalikes, but we weren't all fooled, particularly not Iceman who was in the crowd. The balloon animals were a lovely touch, and the instructive illustrations too.

The set was a mix of very new and very old, almost none from the difficult second album "Shiney on the Inside", but a good few early rarities, including my personal favourite "Cookie", also "Slip Into Me", "Life on a Crescent", "Ballroom" and more. The new material all sounds good, get the new album from Outstanding Records, I keep leaving my copy places, so am not entirely familiar with it yet. It's got "Gentleman Jim" on it though, which is ace.

From comments on the Devant yahoo group it seems there were a few more songs on the setlist which weren't played, I'm kind of glad they didn't encore with "Ginger" though. GRATE though it is, that song signifies a point when they were written off by the mainstream music press to me, which is sad. What with all things (OK, just doing well at the moment, hopefully someone will find a way of re-releasing "Asylum", the comedy series that featured the songs of the Devants from about 1996. I heard on the David Walliams website that he was in it too, don't remember him, only Simon and Jessica really.

Anyway, see my pictures of the whole band in action or just Professor Rimschott and here's a pic from Ice-man's phone more later, don't want to spoil you.

Blimey, I only mentioned here once and suddenly I'm getting loads of traffic, is he the new ? BBC says Hann's ready to meet Hicks in the ring! Saw ALMOST get the highest break of the earlier. But not quite, he positioned himself badly on the last pink, did a fantastic pot and left a long but OK black. And missed it, only 127.

Saw at last, see www.romzom.com for more details on it... I am so glad it was as good as I'd hoped, and was surprised that as well as being funny and cool and a bit gory, there were also moving and sentimental bits. I had the slightest hint of a tear in my eye when 's "Your My Best Friend" was used on the soundtrack. Absolutely ace film, like a feature length episode, but with killing.

The seems to have been a bit lively today, with and seemingly nearly coming to blows... all this while we were out shopping. seems to be a bit of a tosser, and now we're getting worried that we may have misjudged , who we've hated since we first saw him have a run in with Quentin a couple of years back.

Great to hear Portsmouth beat Man U, that puts them a bit closer to safety!

The rest of the weekend's been a bit quiet. A few drinks in then a great meal at on Friday, then after our trip to the cinema - , now known as we just came back and watched more .
