Senator Douglas Scott'sterm ended and Kane's term began on 21 November 1970 becauseScott had been appointed to the remainder of Senator Hon GeraldMcKellar's term in 1970. Scott did not contest the 1970election. Since McKellar's term was technically unexpired, Kanewas held to have replaced Scott from the date of theelection.
Not the same NSW Douglas Scott who wasmurdered, AFAIK.
