Shame to have just missed this, not sure the seller realised there was any connection, but it was an invitation to the wedding of and ... went for £51 in the end to a member of www.encyclopedia-titanica.org.

A fascinating item! A stiff white card, 4½” x 3½”, with printed wording (in silver) that is remarkably similar to the wording used nearly 100 years later. Mr and Mrs Winfield (of ‘Colaba’, Grange Lane, Netley Abbey) invite Miss S Holliday (whose name is written in neat silver ink) to the marriage of their daughter Ada to Mr C V Clarke at St Edward’s Church, Netley, on Monday 29th June 1908. The card has a couple of faint finger prints, and faint foxing marks. Overall condition is nevertheless extremely good for this fascinating item of social history

As it was a family thing I started to bid, and as it started at £1.50 I thought I stood a good chance. Was I wrong!! I finally bid £37 then in the last few minutes it went to £50 and in the last few seconds a new bidder came in at £51. Sold to the man from South Carolina USA. He is buff so hopefully he won't sell it for profit.
