The announcement no-one was waiting for

Popex is closing. Obviously I have known for a while, I have been made redundant, but couldn't talk about it. So now I'm looking for work! It's time to reorganise all my sites to put a big job advert at the top. If you have any ideas, please get in touch, my CV is here, I am a systems developer / analyst programmer type, been specialising in web systems for the last ten years.

Time to take a break I think, me and the wife are off to Paris for a weekend soon. Not been there before, if you have any recommendations (I will be searching for vegan food and possibly indie dancing) please let me know. I hear they have a lovely gallery and things, though I SWEAR we're not going on a Davinci Code pilgrimmage...

Erk, girl dies in fire breathing disaster, that's horrible. You can't use alcohol or petrol to do this sort of thing.

RE: The announcement no-one was waiting for

*wipes tears from eyes* This is so wrong. I know that I was only there intermittently, but I just assumed that Popex would always be there.

Bob, Ian, Daisy and I were canting the other week and realized that our gang was basically formed from Popex friends. This is our Glastonbury gang and therefore precious. Thank you for making that happen.

All the best for the future and I hope something great turns up soon.

Buggeration!

Free Radical were looking for programming types not long ago. There's a strong contingent of oldies, like myself, beavering away. Nottingham's quite nice too. If you do apply and succeed I get a bonus, I'll give you 15%. Deal?

Cheers but

Nottingham is a bit too far of a commute, I am a homeowner in Folkestone.

I am gutted mate

Bobster here.

I too have unexpectedly become an unemployed. I hope you are not having to take your employer to court like me?

Good luck finding something cool that involves hunking loads of data about, I know you love that.

I have had an idea for a site involving maps if you are interested? I have had the idea for a while but lack pretty much any of the skills required to get it going...

Thanks for creating popex, sticking with it and helping me get into blagging free stuff :)

Stay in touch

B

Cheers mate, sorry to hear about your situation

Let me know about the map thing if you like, it is quite interesting. Is it a battleships type game where you launch massive bombs at neighbouring cities? I have no idea how to implement that but thought it would be quite cool...

Arse

Frankly Mr Crabtree, Arse. Just as I get good at Popex too, only took me 5 years ;) When you said you had job news I was more hoping of the revamp/launch kind. I'm just an optimistic fool !

You want a job at Bristol Uni ? I can get you a bunch of programming work !

Not your fault matey

and I'm sure if you still had the rights to the code we could host the game on another server - but hey, would you want to ? As my girlfriend said very (un)tactfully after I said I'd been playing for 6 years, "maybe it's time for a change then".

Good luck Pauly.. and thank you for Popex, it really has been great.
