Got myself a Dell, twin core and about a hundred times more powerful than what we're using now, plus the ability to burn and things. Not going the full media center route yet, might put a TV card in it later though. Arriving some time next week, can't wait.
Also got a new computer / scanner combo, and was confused by these icons on the packaging:

Unfortunately I'd put the plastic wrapper on a baby's head and on my own head before I figured out what it was meant to mean!

On a similar note I bought a breast pump yesterday that told me only to use it under adult supervision. Did they think I was going to let the baby milk itself??

I think it's a "modern" kind of warning, ie if you are an eleven year old who has just given birth, ask someone to help you out.
I didn't know you were pregnant, congratulations.

I think most baby items have similar types of "warnings " on them... my mum and I had hours of fun in mothercare! Yep, baby due in less than 2 weeks, its all still a bit surreal and sitting at home before the move is KILLING me....

Hauppage do a nice (tiny) TV to USB mpeg converter thingy, IIRC it might be compatible with dig TV.

I was thinking of getting an internal digital TV card if anything.

Noooooooooooooooo don't get a hauppage - you'll only complain endlessly about it... Get yourself one of these:

I have the external USB one but the internal ones are superb too. And they support HDTV (when it airs on freeview). Can record the entire bitsteam too so can replay any channel.

So no need for two cards (or more) like most "media center" PC's have then for recording two at once? You're just recording all of the input? What operating system are you using with that? I will be starting with Windows Media Center on the new computer.

Yep - that's the card I was recommending as well ! You can record a 'multiplex' at a time (a multiplex is a bunch of channels that get broadcast on the same frequency) so you can't record all TV output ;) But if it's on the same multiplex you can record & view multiple channels at the same time.
I use XP Pro with mine but it's fine with media centre. You could always add a USB DigiTV box to double up your decoding capacity if you need to...
