Council want both D'Haan's plans AND Goddens?

May72006

I hear Shepway council want both D'Haan's plans AND Goddens to go forward - even though D'Haan has made it quite clear that his plans require the ground rent on the flats on Godden's land to support the marina... AND despire the fact that Godden's plans are feck awful! Apparently it's in the Folkestone Herald this week - could you see what it says my friend? thanks!

I couldn't find mention of this in the paper

The only one who I saw suggesting both plans was the answer, was the chap from Trent Developments. I would have thought some sort of compromise was the only way forward though, unless someone buys Godden's land off him.

RE: I couldn't find mention of this in the paper

Ha! The guy from Trent would say that wouldn't he?

Actually, if the council accept the D'Haan/Foster designs as the masterplan for the area, then Godden/Trent will be forced to build according to the plan - or have their land compulsorily purchased so that the council can build according to the plan.

I'm not a big fan of compulsory purchases, but I think in this case it would be most justified.

Godden will sell the land quite happily though

So no need for that, he wants full market rate for it though, and now it has planning permission that's a lot more than when it did not. Who would set the price for the compulsory purchase?

I see there is another compulsory purchase (or maybe even a confiscation) being considered of a derelict house in Augusta Gardens.

how do you know he'd sell it quite happily? I suspect he has a contract with Trent Developments now...

I'm sure I read this in the paper

The price suggested I think was about sixty million, compared to eleven million before the planning permission was granted. I could be wrong about this.

jeez! £60m? It's not worth that, even with planning permission...
