Our council wants a casino on the Folkestone seafront?

Seafront casino plans

AN application has been submitted for a casino for Shepway.

The Government's casino advisory panel welcomed proposals from local authorities for regional, large or smaller venues, and on Friday, Shepway District Council put its case for a large casino for the seafront area of Folkestone.

The panel said it would be particularly interested in areas of deprivation, and the district council said the job opportunities and increase in visitors would be of great benefit to the area.

A decision is not expected before the autumn.

Is there already a casino?

I went past "Luxor Casino Bingo" near Tontine Street at the weekend, is it just bingo, or is it really a casino? Doesn't seem likely.

Personally I wouldn't be too worried about a casino being in the area, is there any reason to be?

Guessing the casino in the story above is not part of Roger DeHaan's masterplan, it'll be part of Jimmy Godden's Benidormesque hotel complex.

RE: Is there already a casino?

exactly - Benidorm here we come. Is that really what we want for Folkestone though? On the seafront?

I say stick it in the centre of town and it might bring in some idiots with money to burn - but don't put it on our seafront. What a waste that would be.

but down on the seafront, I'm seeing a marina, a casino, Aston Martins racing around the East Cliff, it could be a winner.
