SFA Day OK! (part one)

Jul82003

Album out on 21st of July, and it's sounding ace...

Super Furry Animals today announce the launch of their latest album/DVD, Phantom Power, due for release 21 July 2003 on Epic Records.

Well, they might announce it today, but everyone I know has it already, what's that all about then? I've not been able to listen to mine yet as I keep taking it places and leaving it there... BUT, I love the one track I already know off it "Golden Retriever". What's it sound like though, it's very familiar, is it Chicory Tip?

See phantom-power.com for much, much more...

Phantom Power is the band's second simultaneous DVD/album release and builds on the success of the multi award-winning 2001 album Rings Around The World. Animated by Pete Fowler and Neil McFarland, it is set to generate real excitement amongst Furries fans.

Super Furry Animals are set to extend their unique attitude to their music and technology via mobile. Phantom Power will be accompanied with the latest developments in mobile including an SFA branded java platform game available to download to compatible phones from their website – phantom-power.com. Super Furries are also taking part in an artist MMS trail with Vodafone Live and T-Mobile throughout July and August. Users of these services will be able to access a Super Furry Animals artist package including news, band information, music clips from the new album/DVD and photos. Other forthcoming SFA mobile activities include i-melody/voice ringtones, colour screensavers, and text quizzes.

The album and DVD launch is also accompanied by a strong online presence in the form of www.phantom-power.com. The website plays a crucial role in promotional activity surrounding the launch of the "Phantom Power". Visitors to the site can currently access a new advance album download track every week. These downloads "time out" after 5 plays and require fans to join the SFA email newsletter to gain access. The aim is to give fans advance access to the album and reduce the need for them to access illegal file sharing services. The forthcoming single, "Golden Retriever", will also be available as a paid-for-download on then 0D2 service from July 14th

phantom-power.com features advance previews from the DVD and will play host to the world premiere of the DVD which will be streamed live on the site on July 20th, 24th and 27th at 7pm. From July 7th special Pete Fowler teaser album adverts will be distributed across over 50 entertainment sites, music newsgroups and fan communities. An exclusive press conference with the Super Furries is also planned to be webcast on phantom-power.com during week of album release.

The site includes a special area with a series of additional exclusive Pete Fowler animations to accompany the DVD. This area can be accessed and unlocked by fans placing the new album into their computers. The content in this area will be updated every month with live tracks, new animations and downloads.

From July 14th "Phantom Power" will be available to pre-order on www.HMV.co.uk. As an incentive for pre-ordering the album/DVD fans will be offered the chance to sign up to receive a free download of a live SFA track. This track will be emailed to fans on release date. www.HMV.co.uk customers also have the chance of their copy being signed by the band.
