Oyster Cards - What a load of old crap!

Wow, the new mail bounce handling code is working far too efficiently, I was sure all the bounces I got were out of office replies, but it seems I'm shedding users at a rate of nots since I turned this code really live this morning... At the moment I'm unsubscribing and flagging users, so once a month I can re-subscribe them all and try them again...

Not sure what's going on with my Oyster card renewal... I paid on Friday, and nominated Chalk Farm as my station to reactivate my card... All weekend it's been telling me "ticket expires soon" when I go through a gate, including this morning at Chalk Farm, so what's going on? Also following their rules, I don't think I should have been allowed on the 106 this morning, but it flashed green and let me on OK, and the same again at the mysterious optional card readers at Finsbury Park... so when will it expire? Possibly I got the extra flashing i need to tell me that my ticket is valid for another month... we'll see...

Oystercard update

Aha, just going through my mails (250 spams over the weekend that got through Yahoo's spam filter), and found that this was sent sometime on Saturday... so it looks like it takes 24 hours for an order to go through:

The products you ordered through the Oyster online shop are now ready for pick up at any ticket gate at: Chalk Farm station.

To charge your products to your Oyster card, simply touch your Oyster card on the yellow reader as you enter the station, and watch for the flashing green lights telling you the recharge has been successful. Then your Oyster card is ready to use from the product start date. For more information, or for any questions, please visit http://www.Oystercard.com or call the Oyster Helpline on 0845 330 9876.

Thank you for using the Oyster online shop. We hope you are pleased with the level of service you have received. If you do have any feedback we would be delighted to hear from you. Just complete the feedback form next time you visit http://www.Oystercard.com.

Oyster Cards - What a load of old crap!

Got an Oyster Card update from a friend:

I tried to RENEW
mine by phone and after a LENGTHY recorded message the operator told
me:

  1. they didn't have any record of my card on their computers (how can
this possibly BE?!?) because I'd bought my card at the station ?!?
why would they have a DIFFERENT database depending on where you
    bought it from) and

  2. they COULD register it for me BUT I'd be quicker walking to the
station and queuing up (NG!) AND even then they wouldn't be able to
get the card renewed for several days (how can this BE?!? do they
POST the details to the station or WHAT?!?

PopEx Admin all day

Spent all day deleting accounts, fixing accounts, deleting emails, and keeping an eye on the email bounce handling code.

Went on the exercise bike this morning for the first time in about two weeks, only managed 3.5k, but on the upside there were no problems on the 106 today.

Getting a bit bored of putting in links to old stories, but it's necessary to make any sense of this crap... going to write something that will work it out and do it all automatically (is this a "wiki"?). Maybe tomorrow.
