Trying, and failing, to install MP3::Splice and Audio::MPEG on a machine here at work, why does none of this go smoothly? It's making the day REALLY CRAPPY... MP3::Splice looked to be GREAT for getting an MP3, and chopping out a sample of it, but I can't find a "proper" version of it to install... it's not on CPAN, and while I can get hold of the sourcecode here just copying that in won't install the dependencies / components to actually make it run, possibly some of it's in C or something.

time was that you could just cut them - they have no main header, and are arranged in a series of frames. Players didn't used to complain about half chopped intro or outro frames...
Actually - you probably still can - depends what you are trying to do and what kind of mp3s they are - info here mpeg format . Guess it would be nicer if someone had already done it in a module though.

but the one that's on cpan there is no documentation for, and the one that there is documentation for seems to have vanished! Cheers though...

dont have a clue what you're talking about - it's like you're talking a different language. however, if it's any help whatsoever (and it probably wont be and i'll just embarass myself) i enjoy the editor in the Nero suite of stuff form p3s and for mpegs i enjoy VirtualDub.

It's a bug in my forum code, I will get to it when I can... Haha, sorry for talking bamboozling nonsense on here, but dammnit it's my site! CPAN is an archive of code, I went there looking for programming modules so I could write my own thing for editing MP3s... I'm not after trying to recreate something that you might use, but I want to automate chopping a 30 second sample out of a sound file, keeping all the header info (the stuff that lets the IPOD etc know the artist / album / track title etc) and resampling it at a lower rate. Want this to happen without any user interaction, each time a new MP3 is uploaded somewhere. Getting there!
