Just stumbled across this post about The Goose, Brixton again
Home
Went to see The Pogues last night at Brixton Academy, and they were alright... was a nice christmassy vibe, but I didn't really get into it... pubs in Brixton were RAMMED with pre gig drinkers, and the venue itself seemed equally overfull. My theory is your average fan of the Pogues is about twice the size of your average teen gigger, so there were the same number of people in attendance, but just more beer bellies.
We had a few drinks in The Goose, it's rubbish, like a noisy Wetherspoons. Was lucky even to get in there, had to queue up outside.
The Pogues themselves were on good form, but Shane McGowan was a bit wobbly, an incoherent between songs. So, on top form really then, somewhere between Pete Doherty and Brian Wilson.
They opened up with "Streams of Whiskey", Caitlin O'Riordan did a song in the middle somewhere, and also she filled in for Kirsty MacColl on a surprise *cough* encore of "Fairytale of New York". There were more songs inbetween. As I say, it was alright, but I didn't really get into it. Being less drunk than most people was a part of it, though I was more drunk than Clare, who enjoyed it more than me, until I started going on. Having bitten through my cheek in the night with my enormous back teeth is what I'm putting most of it down to, I'm still feeling general annoyance today, for no reason.
Gmail weirdness today, had dozens of emails arrive today that were sent back in September.
Last day of work! Got a huge weight of baggage to carry to Folkestone after work, but can't wait to be there and settled in... Possibly no updating of this over the Christmas period, sorry all.

It's been renamed a few times since then and is now "The Rest Is Noise"
Seems it is no longer there, it is a music bar now called "And The Rest Is Noise". For Brixton bars check out urban75.org...
Don't be surprised if the pub changes name while you're sat there having a drink as this is one of Brixton's most renamed bars.
Formerly Ivan's retreat (May 2008-September 2009), The Goose (2005-Apr 2008) and before that the Flourmill and Firkin, this large bar is now in the hands of the folks behind the Camden Lock Tavern and the New Cross Amersham Arms.

Some mates of mine went and were planning to start their night in Stockwell's famous Irish boozer, The Swan, at five - I daren't ring to check to see if they're okay!
Happy Christmas matey!
