How mental was Ray Gosling on BBC Breakfast yesterday?

I didn't realise it would be on national TV (TV presenter confessing to a murder on regional TV show)
In case you missed it he was on there because he is a BBC presenter in the midlands, and he confessed to killing his gay lover on a regional bbc show. He doesn't think he'll be arrested for it though "I'll tell them nothing". You just confessed to it and explained how you did it live on the BBC!
Assuming he has not just made the whole thing up, I guess he doesn't have too much to fear anyway, he's seventy years old so what's a life sentence anyway?
I hope Kaddy-Lee Preston never does anything like this.
UPDATE: he has been arrested.
