I'll show you the regeneration of Folkestone RIGHT HERE!

Jan192010

Legendary Folkestone venue reopens its doors...

Never mind your creative quarter and your ASDA and all that, look whose front door was open today! This is evidence of the regeneration of Folkestone.

I don't remember seeing it in the masterplan, but I think that's all out the window now. So who is working on [[]]The Elizabethan, and what are they doing? Flats? Offices? Or an actual new place to go in Folkestone?

I say "legendary" Folkestone venue, maybe it's just me who is obsessed with it. I have lived here for about six years and never seen it open, what a treat to have a peek inside.

I did not dare actually go in, but if you ever did (this person did does that still look about the same? Reminds me of a Beefeater or something.

I'm off to Legends of Folkestone with this one.

The Elizabethan restaurant

I think it has been closed about 30/40 years late 70s early 80s, I did go there once many years ago and it was very much like a Beefeater before Beefeaters, I am surprised after all these years that it is in such good condition. I cannot recall why it closed, I think it was a reasonably popular place. Would be interested to see if there are any menus remaining, I imagine a three course meal was about £2,50, wine about £1 a bottle and beer less than 50p and the average Folkestone weekly wage about £30

The Elizabethan restaurant folkestone the elizabethan

Someone reports it being closed when they lived here in 1985, but was visited by someone else in the 1970s in this thread about the Mayfield Suite... I like to think there are still prawn cocktails and blackforest gateaux half eaten on plates on the tables.
