HA! I have no lavish lifestyle
Home
Much as I appreciate an extra 2.5% in my pocket, I am slightly afeared of how many places the value 17.5 will have been hard coded in any of the computer systems I may now have to reprogramme. Not to many I hope.
This new VAT change will not change the price we're paying for everything of course, the majority of most people's outgoings are rent and energy and Jaffa Cakes and things, which are not taxed in this way.

Tell me about it, my expenses form is hard enough to fill in let alone trying to work out what tax rate goes where.
Imagine the poor newsagents and shopkeepers who have to go around and take 2.5% off the price of everything? OR, what will really happen, they'll keep all the prices the same and pocket the 2.5% as profit. Effect on the common man? Zero.

The effect looks small when you are just considering one item, but it all mounts up, it's all extra cash in circulation.

I suppose you're right, I must try to not be cynical. But it's hard, having worked for some of the banks that caused the trouble - and now I'm doing some work for the Tax Man so I'm a little too close to it all.
People of the world, keep buying stuff and things. And keep going on holiday so that Pauly can keep his lavish lifestyle. And buy some gig tickets too....

I thought of one place where money will be saved over the next year, if you buy any services were prices are quoted without VAT (IE I might get my heating looked at) then that could be a bill of hundreds or even thousands of pounds that I will be saving the 2.5% on... There's no reason for anyone to put their net prices UP in these cases, it would be sheer evil.
But YEAH! Buy tickets!
