Do you have any? Been listening to lots of Ricky Gervais recently, old radio shows from XFM, and they're great (if repetitive). Now we want more, and we want earlier. The oldest show we have is from November 10th 2001, which I think was an officially sanctioned and downloaded one from XFM, but surely someone out there has some earlier taped-off-the-radio stuff? By my reckoning there's at least another four years of stuff before that.
Ricky / Steve / Karl, if you're out there, or anyone from XFM, please raid the archives for me, I'm sure radio stations have to keep recordings of everything. In return I can point you towards a copy of some hard to find comedy like Asylum or something more pertinent such as Meet Ricky Gervais, or even tell you my anecdote about Ricky telling me I was the first person who had ever recognised him.
Um, I just already told most of the anecdote actually, but please get in touch if you have old shows.

The earliest available recording is indeed from the 10th November 2001 although this has never been on the XFM website. The earliest show they've ever made available was from 12th January 2002.
The Ricky Gervais Show started in September 2001, the first few shows have never been found and are never likely to be.
Gervais did join XFM in 1997 but was fired a year later when the Capital Group took over. In that time he only did a few months worth of shows with Stephen Merchant, Karl Pilkington was not involved at that time.
I have a website where you can listen to more than 80 shows they did between 2001 and 2005. If you wanna check it out click the link below.

I think I have all the shows you have there, on mp3.
It feels like XFM lasted for more than a year first time around, I lived in London then and it seems like we used to listen to Ricky every day. Even when he didn't have his own show, he cropped up on Claire Sturgis' and other shows.
Still vainly seeking the show where I get a mention, or one of the million or billion shows where someone I know does. These will be all the very early days stuff that XFM did not republish on the website, I don't think they started doing that until he was getting a bit famous on TV, and I guess they'd never republish anything from the real XFM, before Crapital did what they did to it.
