Not Sure Where That Came From...

... but I just got my old PC internetting wirelessly at last, without needing to buy any new bits, and by following a forum post from 2005. How many times have I tried this and failed? This time I tried something new, and it worked. I think I was inspired because Clare was trying to get me to throw out the old tube monitor, which is the only visible bit of this computer.
Still got one problem like this where I'm getting an IP address automatically, but will fix that tonight. Then what do I use the computer for? Just backups? Some kind of media server? I do have a TV tuner card I should try and force into it. I should definitely try and make the most of the kit I already have for free instead of spending my christmas bonus on this Apple TV PVR...

Hey great ot see you're persevering with Linux! It'll probably all break again when you upgrade to Gutsy Gibbon... If you've got direct rendering working, install Stellarium...

This version is Dapper Drake. I got a CD of a more recent version off someone at work hoping I could start again from there and then upgrade to the latest, but if I try that my wireless connection is lost immediately, and without that I can do nothing without rearranging the flat and temporarily running cables, which I am loath to do... Probably I'll go from upgrade to upgrade until the first time I can't get something working, then I'll give it all up again for six months.
Got to get me another mouse for this computer, I'm using an old mac mouse with only one button and no scroll wheel, it's hard work! I do have a switch that i hoped to use, sharing the keyboard mouse and monitor with my other machine, but the switch is old and only handles old style keyboard and mouse plugs and connections and not USB, boo. I probably want to just VNC onto this machine and get rid of the other monitor.

I wonder who that person at work could be ;-)
I like the BBCode window, i've seen that before somewhere too :-)
Anyway I was posting to say try MythTV under linux. I had it on a Shuttle box for about a year a loved it, I only stopped using it when I got my Topfield TF5800 PVR. I can always help you out with MythTV or Ubuntu...
