Bank Holiday

Nov132007
[quote]Number 10 Downing Street has approved a petition that was requesting a new public holiday falling on the Monday after Remembrance Sunday in November each year. To be known as the National Remembrance Holiday, it's purpose is threefold:

1. To emphasise the remembrance of those servicemen and women who have given, and continue to give, their lives for the country.

2. To remind people of the importance of protecting our Nation and what it stands for.

3. To break that 3-month period between the August Public Holiday and Christmas when there are currently no long weekends (especially as the UK has fewer public holidays than most European Countries).

"Number 10 Downing Street has approved a petition"

Is it just me, or do those words not sit right?

They have accepted the petition on pm.gov.uk

Not sure where the wording comes from, just forwarding on a mail a friend sent me as I agree with the sentiment of it.

Sorry, I had my Mark Thomas hat on - it was the thought of the Government choosing what we were allowed to petition for.

These are 'official' petitions

They will be noticed and commented on (if they get more than a certain number of signatures, which I think this one has already), even if not actually replied to.
