Pauly's 'Stoney Soapbox
Pauly's weblog, we've finally LEFT Stoke Newington, for the tropical delights of Folkestone, Kent, though I still work in Farringdon, London. I talk about pubs, restaurants, property, IPOD, computers, and popex, and I'm getting married in August. Have a nice day.
Le commute
Got stuck with someone REALLY ANNOYING in our carriage today, she jibbered and jabbered all the way in. SHUT UP, surely the first carriage is the quiet one? I think it's time to make some "No Talking" stickers to go next to the "No Smoking" signs, see if that helps.pauly :: Tue 26 Apr 2005 ::
Having a bit of a fiddle with the CSS here today, trying to shift the sidebar navigation over there --> so that it looks exactly the same as it does now, if that makes any sense...
The Bungalow
Oh, also seem contracts will be exchanged on the bungalow today! At last! Could be in the money soon... so do I buy a massive telly, pay as much as poss off the mortgage, or just let it all trickle away on furniture and things..?pauly :: Mon 25 Apr 2005 :: (2 responses)
Reporting in...
NICE weekend again, a quiet Friday night in front of the telly for a start. Going to bed early in the week, it feels a bit like we should go wild and crazy out somewhere, but it's nice to get in at the end of the week and relax knowing we don't have to be up early in the morning. EXCEPT, this weekend we did, heading off to Canterbury for a proper suit fitting. That's all done now, deposit paid, measurements taken, this wedding is well under way now.pauly :: Mon 25 Apr 2005 ::
Didn't have a lunch in Canterbury, though I did have a nice walk round, there seem to be so many good pubs there. What a day for me to be driving, so couldn't go in any of them.
Saturday night went to The Happy Frenchman, there was a band doing mostly rock covers, terrible sound and generally Not Good, so we bailed, and headed to The Clifton instead. Must have had a few drinks we stayed in there until nearly midnight. Yesterday we went for a nice walk, along the sea front and that.
Good to hear (though I didn't watch it) that Portsmouth DRUBBED Southampton, and also that Norwich somehow beat Charlton - Charlton can spare the points, and this really means that Southampton are going down doesn't it? Off to premierleague.com to find out more...
No probs commuting in today, train about ten minutes late, but at least I had a bit of a snooze...
OK Commuter
Bah, not a very OK Commuter this morning, tired as you like... went for drinks at The Porterhouse in Covent Garden last night, and even though we left about 8.30 it still means a later night than we'd like, so feeling tired today. AND the train was ten minutes late. At least it's Friday... out on the large tomorrow, calling into The Happy Frenchman at some point. Oh and got a suit fitting in Canterbury too.pauly :: Fri 22 Apr 2005 ::

House
Not my house this time, or house prices, or anything like that... it's a quiet day and I was struggling for something to say so I thought I'd give House a mention. It's a TV medical drama that seems to be taking the Americas by storm starring our old favourite Hugh Laurie as Doctor Gregory House, and we're quite looking forward to getting a look at it. Main reason for mentioning it though is that when I first read about this show (probably in the Sunday Times) it mentioned that the character seemed to be based partly on Sherlock Holmes... is this what the rumours about Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie appearing in a Sherlock Holmes TV series were based on? I hope not...http://www.fox.com/house/ pauly :: Thu 21 Apr 2005 ::
Find out more about House, or see the official site - avoiding it myself because of spoilers though.

MP3 and PERL aggro
Trying, and failing, to install MP3::Splice and Audio::MPEG on a machine here at work, why does none of this go smoothly? It's making the day REALLY CRAPPY... MP3::Splice looked to be GREAT for getting an MP3, and chopping out a sample of it, but I can't find a "proper" version of it to install... it's not on CPAN, and while I can get hold of the sourcecode here just copying that in won't install the dependencies / components to actually make it run, possibly some of it's in C or something.pauly :: Wed 20 Apr 2005 :: (6 responses)
Won't vote, can't vote
Hmm, seems we can't vote as weren't registered at the new address before the 11th March. So what do I do? Could go back to Stokey, knock on the door and see if there's a voting card for me there...pauly :: Wed 20 Apr 2005 :: (2 responses)

I like the pope...
HA! No I don't, I don't expect he smokes dope very much at all! Here are some more things he doesn't like, from The Times: rock music, gays, communists, women priests, abortion, euthenasia, abortion, multiculturalism, anglicans, protestants, not speaking latin, and Turkey.pauly :: Wed 20 Apr 2005 ::
Doesn't he sound like a progressive and well rounded fellow? Ah well, it's not like he was in the Hitler Youth or anything.
The right carriage!
Went for carriage number one today on our little commute from Folkestone to Charing Cross, and it was just great. Seems to be the carriage of choice for the professional commuter, so the tables were already bagsed, but everyone was silent, either sleeping or engrossed in an improving book or quality daily.pauly :: Wed 20 Apr 2005 ::
Took a stroll down to Folkestone snooker club last night before Property Ladder, to get Jimmy White tickets. He's coming to Folkestone and playing against the Malteser Tony Drago. I will miss it as I'm at the Rugby, but Clare is excited about it.
This week's Property Ladder was good, that house was quite fab for only 40k, being on three levels like that. Think they were quite lucky not to lose a fortune with their wacky ideas. I thought this series might be one like trail of misery, as on previous shows the amateur developers only seem to have been saved by booming property prices, now seemingly over...
