Introduction
- I am a lead developer / systems architect. I build applications and websites, from concept, to designing the system architecture and database, to building, and maintaining the site, and creating editorial content. I am a trained programmer / software engineer, with fifteen years experience in web application development.

- PHP, javascript, jquery, perl, Apache, mysql, LINUX, AJAX, XHTML, CSS, XML, RSS, shell scripting.
- My particular interests are web development, including collaborative / social web systems, AJAX applications, standards based code and accessibility, validation, and search engine placement.
- I am familiar with all aspects of web work, or development in a UNIX environment.
- Less recently I have commercial experience in "C", Oracle, and COBOL.

Freelance, Aug 2006 - Jan 2007
- Poke - Building an online game for Penguin books, using PHP, Mysql, Apache, and the Google Maps API.
- Goallover - creating a lead generation system in perl and Mysql.
- Popdog - processing and manipulating XML feeds for a radio station, and adding Web2.0 style features to their website, in perl, PHP, and javascript.
- News Biscuit - creating a forum and editorial promotion system, and other Web2.0 features.
Channelfly, 2000 - Aug 2006
- I created Popex, an online virtual stock market game based on the music industry in 1998. I designed, built, and marketed the site in my spare time. I sold a majority share to Fortunecity and joined them to run and further develop the site full time.
- We sold the site to Channelfly in 2000, and I went with it. I ran the site at Channelfly for six years, expanding the user base to over 100,000.
- I adapted Popex to become Celebdaq for the BBC, converting it to mod_perl where it won a BAFTA and is still running now in various forms. This involved working at the BBC converting the code to their system / standards.
- I also built other systems for Channelfly, in Perl on Linux and Mysql, including event booking for Barfly, magazine advertising sales for The Fly, and artist management calendars for Supervision Management, along with office tools like a purchase order system and holiday calendar.
- Popex was closed in August 2006, and I took redundancy

- I worked for IPC developing web systems for nme.com in Perl and Mysql on UNIX.

- I joined a small team, building systems in Perl on Linux to run a fast growing community website. I created content management, stats analysis, and ad management systems, and maintained ond enhanced ther features including forums.
- The company expanded rapidly, floated, and moved to New York.

- I worked in new media for IPC Magazines, building content management systems and working with editorial staff in developing and running online versions of some of their biggest magazines, including NME, Loaded, and more.
- I designed and built their first content management system, analytical tools, and community tools (including chat, forums, polls etc), using shell, perl, oracle, and 'C'.

Interests
- Web development - I have designed, developed, set up, run web sites and applications for myself, including a family tree site and a local events and entertainment site including features like this interactive real estate map and pub finder in PHP and javascript.
- I am part owner of Popbitch the music industry gossip email and website, I created the public website and web based editorial system, in Perl, on Linux and Mysql.
