Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone

It's now been over two years since we did our last stage tour, a complete sell-out and one of the best times of our lives. It's for those reasons that we can't wait to do it all over again; only this time it's going to be bigger, bolder, funnier, and packed with more food and laughs than ever before. We like to do things a little differently to most, which is why we're not just giving you a show, we're giving you a real night out. There will be some cooking, a sprinkling of special guests* you all know and love, and a chance for some of our lucky audience members to enjoy a slap up meal on stage courtesy of the (Hairy) chefs.

Last time round we told you our story, but this time, we're taking you round the world. Starting with our northern roots, we'll share our rip roaring tales of decadent do's, big dinners and culinary catastrophes. There will be a bit of dancing, a bit of flirting, a bit of singing, and some downright hilarious stand-up comedy. Filled with plenty of surprises, expect the unexpected… and if you like us on the telly, you will love us Larger than Live.

Tickets will be available from the Leas Cliff Hall box office in person, by phone on 0844 871 3015 or online at www.atgtickets.com/folkestone

Comed Dine With Me is from Folkestone and Dover TONIGHT

Apr27

Tonight's Come Dine With Me was the episode recently filmed in Folkestone and Dover, so looking forward to that:

Four cooks from Folkestone and Dover engage in a week of competitive dining. Taking part are eccentric 70-year-old Janet Cripps, self-confessed witch Lisa Mansfield, parish priest Andy Bawtree and businessman John George.

Between them the quartet of hopeful hosts come up with a 50s night, some saucy talk and physical exchanges over dessert, a Downton Abbey dress code, an Abba tribute band, and a cowboy song.

I hear there is some bad behaviour, what a shocker!

Opinions expressed are those of the individual contributor and not those of folkestonegerald.com.

My son and daughter in law had their reception at Vasa. They paid for catering for 50 people but the food provided only covered a maximum of 30 servings. At least 20 guests went hungry. We have tried to liaise with the management on at least 3 occasions, but they just don't want to know. Very sad really. Good money paid, but little back for it.

Emma and I did the quiz last night, Clare chose to stay home because she has to work today. We came fourth, which is not too bad. The same team won, which always wins. There were about a million of them on their team, and we were only two, so we were the real winners. Somehow though they were still awarded the prize money.

Here, a set of Le Creuset saucepans, super low starting price, only 2 days to go. They come with a stand, that price would be crazy cheap just for the stand! Bid now!

The Grand bar booze hotel quiz real ale restaurant food music garden wifi vegetarian rotary club rotarians quiz folkestone the grand folkestone herald

We did a new quiz last night, in place of our regular Wednesday quiz at The Britannia. This was a charity fundraiser organised by the Rotary Club that Clare's uncle is a member of. It was at The Grand, and huge, about 50 teams in, so we weren't expecting much. But we came joint second, so won a prize of four bottles of wine. Had to go up to the front to collect, be presented with the wine, and have my photo taken too. Maybe it's for the Rotarians newsletter, but if it's a slow week I expect we'll be in the Folkestone Herald too. Actually it's always a slow news week around here, what I mean is if they have less than a certain number of drink drivers to fill the paper with, maybe they'll find room for a mention of the Rotary Club quiz.

That was not the "official" white cliffs of Dover that just collapsed in to the sea

Mar15

It happened days ago, not sure why the papers just got it today. It's not part of the land that is the official National Trust property, apparently the bit that collapsed in to the sea is some private land, part of a farm. Interesting though.

Where can I watch the rugby in Hythe this weekend?

Mar14

You would think The Folkestone Gerald would know what's the best pub with a TV in Hythe, but, um, I'm a bit out of touch. So where? So far I have The Globe or Swan Hotel. I have discounted The Fountain, because though it may be nice and close to home I want the option to do a bit of a crawl after.

Things I learned about the White Hart (Hythe)

The White Hart real ale pub food booze garden courtyard smoking child friendly white hart pub hythe white hart hotel whyte heart napoleon eisenhower montgomery richard ii history real ale

Looking for a place to go this weekend in Hythe so checked The White Hart website. I found out The pub was built during reign of Richard II in 1395, good grief can that be right??? No idea how much of the original building is there, very little I would guess. In 1475 it was registered under the title The Whyte Heart, now the White Hart Hotel. The present facade dates from the 17th Century.

More history:

In 1814, the Tsar of Russia and the Emperor of Prussia had lunch there whilst visiting the defences... and once again was the meeting place for preparation for another invasion with Montgomery and Eisenhower preparing for D-Day.

There is a 16th Century courtyard with an outside bar being planned for Summer 2011 along with food areas to eat Al Fresco. There is a 20 cover restaurant with original oak beams and 16th Century inglenook fireplace.

16th century fireplace, ahah so some of the interior is older than the current exterior. All this history has inspired me to visit again this weekend. And they do real ale too!

Leas Cliff Hall bar music child friendly venue ticketmaster keane folkestone leas cliff hall

Keane are playing Folkestone Leas Cliff Hall:

In the first of a series of Keane announcements, the band are pleased to release their UK tour dates beginning in May 2012.

This will be their first UK tour in three years, the last of which culminated in two sold out O2 Arena shows.

On finishing the recording of the new album in February Keane announced two special shows at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill,

a location close to their hearts as it was both their teenage haunt and near to where the album was recorded. They announced the dates in the local paper only and within 5 minutes they were sold out. This will be the first time fans will hear new material.

Highly anticipated and years in the making the band recorded the album in the UK at Sea Fog, Ivor Novello Award winner Tim Rice-Oxley's studio and are calling it their most personal record yet. Release details to be announced soon.
