Blog2022 ≫ Weird week, Clare working lates

Going to be a strange week. Now Clare is in her regular department for the forseeable it's all wacky shift patterns. This means working lots of weekends, and for the next few days she's on lates too. So she started late today, so could go to the gym, but won't be back until we're all in bed.

Work is normal for me, wfh all week, not having to go in because of the train strikes. I fully support the striking workers, and not just because it saves me a day of going into London. It's not on for the government and the right wing press to demonise the working people the way they are.

We're all still quite pleased with our blinds in the lounge. It makes the room look quite different. Thing one wants them in his room now, and Jim is also considering them for his house. I'm going to book them for our bedroom first, and then we'll see if they block enough light out.

I've still got a bit of DIY to do to hide some cables, that were previously hidden by the curtains, but it's not so bad. Also to fill the screw holes where the curtain pole was mounted. Also to get rid of the curtain pole and curtains! Both are really nice, from John Lewis, maybe I should try and sell them?

I keep tweaking my energy graphs, that you can probably see on this page. In fact to make sure you can see it I'll put an archived copy right in this post about here 👇1.

The big bumps in the electricity usage must be the oven, washing machine, and tumble dryer. I'm going to try and limit my use of that a bit more. Would be interesting to see the old one vs the new one though, as the new one is a lot smarter and can turn itself off earlier. The small bumps in there around getting up time must be Clare's hairdryer. I've put a "7am getting out of bed reading" on the graph as speaking with friends they were all saying "my energy monitor is at about £1.80 before I get out of bed" which seems insane, so I'm keeping an eye on that. Ours is hovering around the sixty to seventy pence mark at the moment, depending if Clare dries her hair before 7am I suppose. I do not have heat lamps for exotic pets (which I know is one friend's excuse), I wonder if high powered iphone chargers make the difference (I have none of them either). Imagine if we had a hot tub like everyone had last year, what would that be costing?? I have no gas on there yet, waiting for that one to kick in. If I can keep it under £5.50 a day, I don't have to increase my direct debit. Until the prices go up again in October...
